List of countries not participating in the Green Card lottery

The United States is keen to maintain a mixed immigrant population. Each year, the Diversity Visa Program draws up a list of countries whose nationals are not allowed to take part in the Green Card lottery. These non-participating countries are those where more than 50,000 nationals have immigrated to the U.S. in the previous five years, and are therefore ineligible for this year’s draw.

Countries excluded from the Green Card DV-2024 lottery

For the annual Green Card DV-2024 lottery drawnatives of the following countries and regions were not eligible, as more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the U.S. in the previous five years: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom (excluding Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Chinese exception: natives of Macao and Taiwan were eligible.

Countries excluded from the Green Card DV-2025 lottery

Nationals of the following countries are not eligible for the annual Green Card DV-2025 lottery draw: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Chinese exception: natives of Macao and Taiwan were eligible.

Only one territory was removed from the list of excluded countries between the DV-2024 and DV-2025 programs: the United Kingdom. So British citizens were once again able to apply for the Green Card lottery as part of the DV-2025 draw.
